January 25, 2006 Diner's Card Unavailable in 2006Please note: The Peterborough Summer Festival of Lights Diner's Card will not be available during 2006. February 10, 2006 Festival of Lights to open with a Classic Idol
Davy Jones, formerly of The Monkees will bring his exceptional talent and showmanship to the Del Crary Stage. Davy first invaded teen hearts as the international idol of millions in the hit 1960’s Emmy-Award winning television classic, The Monkees. Since the show hit the small screen, he has triumphed as both a serious actor and a comedian on the theatrical stage; as a rock musician, composer and artist. Davy is also an accomplished writer and humourous storyteller. He recently completed the second edition of his autobiography, Davy Jones, Daydream Believin’, which updates his life and career to present. Next week we reveal the June 28 and July 1 performers. One is a festival favourite that we are proud to present and the other, a group of four of the finest musicians Canada has to offer. More information on Davy Jones can be found at www.davyjones.net. February 16, 2006 Canadian Treasures at Del Crary ParkThe Peterborough Summer Festival of Lights is excited to unveil the next two performers on our list of outstanding 20th Anniversary entertainment.
Wednesday, June 28 will see the return of a classic festival artist, John McDermott. John has proven time and again to be an exceptional balladeer and entertainer, incorporating both storytelling and song in his wonderful shows. As any seasoned festival fan knows, this is one night not to be missed! John McDermott’s meteoric rise to international stardom has become legendary in the music industry. In a span of a few years, John has risen from an unknown to a million-selling solo artist, an essential part of the dynamic phenomenon The Irish Tenors, and a leading champion of veteran’s causes. This week’s other featured artist is a quartet of Canada’s finest musicians. Lunch at Allen’s will entertain the festival crowd on the much-anticipated Canada Day concert, July 1. It all began as a regular get together at Allen's restaurant in Toronto with Canadian music icon Murray McLaughlin and old friends Ian Thomas and Marc Jordan. After adding the voice of Cindy Church, a "Lunch at Allen's" turned into an outstanding band who performs some of Canada's (and the worlds) most enjoyed songs from each of these songwriters’ impressive catalogues.
Marc Jordan and Ian Thomas' songs have been recorded by everyone from Rod Stewart to Bette Midler, and Diana Ross to Santana. Murray McLaughlin’s hits have covered Canadian airwaves from coast to coast. Cindy's voice and songs are well known on the folk festival circuit through her solo work and as a member of Quartette with Sylvia Tyson. Together, it seems as though they've been playing for years with an energy and freshness like they've just met. Each singer is accompanied by one another on a variety of instruments. Vocal harmonies, laughs and a few tall tales in between complete this exciting show. Next week we reveal the July 5 and July 8 performances. One is a mix between two exceptional styles of music and the other, a definite way to make the “Sweet City Women” happy. February 20, 2006 In Memoriam: Fred Anderson, Founder of the Festival
The Board of Directors of the Peterborough Summer Festival of Lights is deeply saddened by the news of Fred Anderson's death and offers sincere condolences to his family and friends. As the Founder of the Festival, Fred Anderson had an idea that came to light 20 years ago. It was Fred's vision, his drive and his dedication that made the Festival of Lights such a major part of the fabric of our community. Until his retirement as Chairman two years ago, Fred did it all ... all the while building the foundation to ensure the Festival lives on. While he may have retired from the hectic day-to-day activities of the Festival, Fred remained on the Board as Past-Chair offering his guidance and expertise. He was also seen at every concert, most often out of the limelight, way at the back of the park ... just enjoying the music. Fred Anderson the man will be greatly missed but his legacy to the Peterborough community will live on for many, many years to come through the Festival. Final arrangements are being made by his family and are not complete at this time. Sincerely, Ron Johnston, March 3, 2006 Jazz, Blues and Classic Rock take Centre StageWhat does Smooth Piano Jazz, Classic Blues and some Rockin' Canadian Classic Rock have in common?
